Fit and Fill never stretch your photo
Fit scales the whole source inside the requested canvas and uses your background color for any remaining space. Fill scales until the canvas is covered, then crops equal amounts from opposite sides. Both preserve the source aspect ratio.
Preset ratios were checked on September 20, 2026. Meta recommends native 9:16 creative for Reels. TikTok documents 9:16, 16:9 and 1:1 placements with minimum dimensions. The higher-resolution Instagram pixel sizes here are practical export presets; platforms may still recompress uploads.
Pixel size and file size are different
Dimensions control the number of pixels. Format, quality and image detail control the encoded file size. The preview is actually encoded with your current settings, so its displayed estimate closely matches the download.
Keep the original
Upscaling cannot create detail that was not in the source, and repeated JPG saves discard information. Keep an untouched original for future exports.
